The goalkeeper special profile week saw Shay Given on Monday and today sees Chelseas shotstopper Petr Cech. With Christmas fast approaching, gavh and myself will be taking a break next week and will resume the Monday beginning 28th December.Petr Cech is a Czech Republic International who signed for Chelsea from French team Rennes in 2004 during Claudio Ranieris reign as manager.Since then, Cech has quickly established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, with his superb shot-stopping being one of his top areas in the game.Into his first season of Premier League action, Carlo Cudicini was seen as number one for Chelsea. However, injury to the now Tottenham Hotspurs goalkeeper, gave Cech his opportunity and he didnt disappoint. Cech finished his maiden season with an impre sive 25 clean sheets in 37 league Travis Boyd Jersey appearances.Cech on International duty for the Czech Republic. Over the seasons, Cech has been seen as Chelseas backbone, and the saviour of many games that led them to succe sive Premier League championships in the seasons from 2004 to 2006 when Jose Mourinho was in charge.Since his impre sive debut season, Cech maintained the number 1 shirt for Chelsea and kept out Italian, Carlo Cudicini, who eventually transferred to Tottenham Hotspurs in 2009.Not only has Cech tasted succe s collectively, he has brought home succe s individually. In 2005 he was named in the PFA Team of the Year and for three straight seasons won the Barclays Golden Glove award the award given for the most clean sheets at the end of the season.Petr Cech is in a debate over who is the top goalkeeper in the world with usual candidates Iker Casillas, Gianluigi Buffon, etc. However, many question whether it is actually Cech that keeps all the cleansheets for Chelsea and is it not actually the Blues back four, who have England captain John Terry at the heart of the defense. The Czech Republic Internationals shot stopping and general goalkeeper ability is seen as almost flawle s, but it has been argued that over the past seasons his penalty saving has not been up to standards of other goalkeepers. This brings up a case in the two Manchester United matches Chelsea played both leading to Penalty shoot-outs in the Community Shield and the UEFA Champions League Final. In the Community Shield, Cech didnt save a single penalty whereas his goalkeeping counterpart Edwin Van der Sar had saved all three of Chelseas penalties. However, in the Champions League Final, Cech made a claim when he saved a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty, before Chelsea eventually went onto lose 6-5.Cech in training for Chelsea. This season has started very well for Cech and his club Chelsea. The Blues are currently sitting at the top of the Barclays Premier League with the best defensive record in the league only conceding 13 goals as of before their game tonight with Portsmouth.Cech started the season by proving a point, and saving two penalties against Manchester United in the seasons curtain riser, the Community Shield which Chelsea went on to win.Cech started the six wins in six at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season, before he was sent off in Chelseas first defeat of the season to Wigan.
