He was placed on leave Sunday after USC AD Pat Haden determined he was "not healthy," and Haden fired Sarkisian the next day after exploring the matter further. Sarkisian was on a plane traveling to an out-of-state treatment facility on Monday when Haden tried, unsucce sfully, to reach him to inform him of his decision. The coach learned of his firing via an email and texts from friends, .ESPN reported that Haden had implemented a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol use with Sarkisian after the coach's embarra sing behavior .
